Motor in the clearance below

Work in progress: This section is still a work in progress — content is being added and revised continuously.

What is checked? Whether a turnout motor hanging under the board reaches into the clearance of a lower track. Trackplanner takes the underside of the roadbed at the turnout (track height minus roadbed thickness), hangs the motor below it with its mounting depth and compares this with the clearance of the tracks below: if a track lies under the motor’s footprint and the motor reaches lower than the top of that track’s clearance, it reports the turnout and the track below, with the amount by which the motor reaches in.

Why does it matter? A staging yard often lies under a station. The vertical clearance is enough for the trains, but not for the motors hanging under the turnouts above. You notice only when the first train gets stuck.

How to fix it: Raise the turnout, lower the track below, or mount the motor at the side if it allows that (mounting in the turnout’s motor chip). There is no quick fix, because each of these is a building decision.

Numbers & defaults: roadbed thickness and clearance height follow your clearance settings (default 1 cm roadbed). The clearance below is widened in curves as for the clearance overlap. Motors without a known mounting depth are not checked. The check is part of the Premium analysis.
