Turnout motor (switch machine)

The turnout motor throws the turnout remotely — solenoid, motor-driven or servo. Under-board motors disappear beneath the baseboard, surface-mounted ones sit visibly beside the turnout. Planning-relevant: motors need space next to or under the track.
