Height step at joint
Work in progress: This section is still a work in progress — content is being added and revised continuously.
What is checked? Do two connected track ends sit at different heights (more than 1 mm apart)?
Why does it matter? In the rail this is not a grade but a step: the rails end at one height and start at another. A train derails there every time. From above the plan still looks finished — the step only shows in 3D or on the workbench. Typical cause: two strands built at different heights (main level and staging yard, or a chain on the wrong base height) were joined with a flex track or by closing a gap.
How to fix it: Clicking the finding in the plan check opens the height profile right at the joint. Or by hand: In the Track tool, select the strand and choose Height in the dock. In the height profile, bring one side to the height of the other, or spread the difference as a ramp along the run (“Gradient” in % or “Target height” at the end). For large differences the length is often too short for a workable ramp — then a helix helps.
Numbers & defaults: tolerance 1 mm (below that the joint counts as level). Workable ramps: ≤ 2.5 % fine, up to 4 % with a warning.
