Gap at joint

Work in progress: This section is still a work in progress — content is being added and revised continuously.

What is checked? Whether two connected track ends sit tight against each other when seen from above, or whether more than 1 mm is left open between them.

Why does it matter? A joint with a gap still counts as connected in Trackplanner if it has been in the plan for a while (up to 6 mm). On the workbench it will not fit like that: sectional track cannot be pulled apart, the rail joiners will not hold the gap cleanly, and the length ends up missing somewhere else. Usually it comes from a line that only just closed, or from an import from another planning program whose track geometry does not match our catalogue exactly.

How to fix it: In the Tracks tool, disconnect the joint and re-attach one of the two pieces; the magnet snaps it exactly into place. If a gap is left, drag from one open end to the other: Trackplanner previews matching pieces in the gap, and letting go connects them. You can also redraw the line. Which piece moves is your call.

Numbers & defaults: reported above a gap of 1 mm (H0, scaled for other gauges). New connections only form up to 2 mm; whatever Trackplanner builds by itself it closes with at most 1 mm per joint. Joints that already exist stay connected up to 6 mm.
