Bridge too short

Work in progress: This section is still a work in progress — content is being added and revised continuously.

What is checked? Whether a track running under a chosen bridge fits completely through its clear opening. Trackplanner wraps your vehicles’ clearance envelope around the lower track (as in the clearance check) and measures along the bridge how far it reaches past the bridge end under the abutment — or hits a pier. This also applies to turnouts and crossings under the bridge: every route counts. Each crossing gets one insight with the missing length (the routes of one turnout at the same place count as one). Bridge sites without a chosen bridge are not checked: they arise from the lower track and cover it by definition.

Why does it matter? Since the terrain follows the bridge, you can place any bridge anywhere — including one that is too short for the track below. On the plan it looks tidy; on the layout the train runs into the abutment or the pier.

How to fix it: Pick a longer bridge or move the bridge until the track below is clear. A click on the insight opens the bridge dock — there you find other bridges and can slide the bridge along the track.

Numbers & defaults: vehicle width per NEM 102 (H0: 48 mm, editable), widened in curves by the car length of your trains (at turnouts and crossings the base width). “Below” means more than 1 cm lower than the track on the bridge. Reported from 0.5 mm of missing length. The check is free.
