Point-to-point layout

On a point-to-point layout trains run from one terminal to the other (e.g. terminus to terminus) instead of in circles. That matches prototype operation but demands active driving and shunting. Many layouts combine both: a visible point-to-point line with a hidden return path via staging yard or reversing loop.
