Radius (nominal radius)

The radius of a curve is stated as the nominal radius, measured to the track centreline — that is how manufacturers specify it. Small radii save space but look toy-like and restrict which vehicles run reliably: long coaches and locomotives need larger radii. Rule of thumb: as large as the space allows.
