Double slip switch

The double slip combines a crossing with four pairs of switch blades: vehicles can cross both tracks and change between them in both directions. In tight spaces one double slip replaces two separate turnouts — which is why station throats love it. Its complex mechanism makes it the most demanding standard track piece.
