Rail (rail profile)

The rail is the steel or nickel-silver profile the wheels run on. Model rails differ in profile height (given as a “code”, e.g. code 83 = 0.083 in ≈ 2.1 mm): lower profiles look more realistic, taller ones are more robust and compatible with older rolling stock.
