Interchange track

An interchange track is where cars are handed over between the modelled layout and the “rest of the world” — the connecting railroad, the large classification yard, the next module. Operationally it is the source and sink of freight traffic: the cars to be delivered come from here, and the ones collected return here. Even a short stub at the layout edge or a hidden track is enough to connect the traffic believably to a network that was never built.
